Gingivitis

Gingivitis is the initial stage of gum disease. Plaque on your gum line and at the teeth that is not eliminated by flossing and brushing can infect the gums and lead to the sign of gingivitis. Cancers

Specific types of cancers such as multiple myeloma (a bone marrow cancer) or leukaemia (a blood cancer) may cause our gums to bleed.

New Flossing Routine

Adopting new flossing routine can also cause bleeding gums. Take an example, if you have begun to floss more frequently to help remove food and plaque from between your teeth, or if you haven’t remembered to floss in a few days, then you may see some bleeding. This should be ok within a week.

Mal-positioned or Crooked teeth

This may make cleaning teeth very difficult through day-to-day brushing and may cause to gum bleeding. The crooked teeth can be the main reason to food getting trapped between two teeth. This again reasons the gum to become bleed easily and inflamed.

New Toothbrush

Using new soft-bristled toothbrush to a firm brush may leads to gums that bleed. Try to use medium-bristled brush or soft and talk to your dentist about what toothbrush is right for you at your next visit.

Medications

The well known Dental Association discovered blood thinning medications as one of the possible reason of  bleeding gums . These medications decrease the blood’s density, which can lead to easier bleeding. So be careful or tell to your doctor before any such medication.

Liver disease

Our liver is main organ which process a lot of factors which once again form a crucial part of the clotting process in our bodies. So any kind of chronic alcoholism or liver disease which changes liver metabolism may cause bleeding gums.

Pregnancy Gingivitis

Often pregnant women suffer bleeding and swollen gums during brushing. This is diagnosed as pregnancy gingivitis. Unbalance hormonal level during pregnancy alters the body’s attack to the bacterium that causes gum bleeding. A regular visit to dental hygienist and day–to-day flossing and brushing can help to stop gum problems from becoming harmful.

Apart from these reasons listed above, there may be more reasons like stress, tobacco usage, HIV , radiation therapy, etc. which may all lead to gum bleeding. Bleeding gums can be a sign of gingivitis, which can appear into the more critical stages of gum disease. The best way to find out what is creating your gums to bleed is to see your dental hygienist and dentist.
